Ready to Run

(I'm working on walking 100 miles by April Fool's day...a little running but mostly walking)

Today I am happy to say that after some e-motivation (thanks!) I got on the treadmill and covered a distance of 2.5 miles in 55 minutes... I actually broke into a jog for 6 minutes in the middle there, while no one was looking*. Yeah, I know. Six minutes. Sports Illustrated wants me on their next cover. :::::falls down laughing::::

(*Actually, to say that no one was looking would not be exactly right. My son opened the door while I was singing along with Pink and got QUITE a good laugh. He responded with his best Blue Man Group moves. At least I'm entertaining MY troops.)

Oh, and today's song/post title.... Dixie Chicks. Ready ready ready to run....all I wanna do is have some fun... what's all this talk about love?

Rock On! I didn't walk today.. drumming after school then PTO.. and I missed it. I'll have to add up my miles tommorow and see how I'm doing.

Add up? oh no... (wait for it, I'm a HUGE dork, remember)

I made a little chart in Excel with 100 squares and I color some of them in every time I run/walk, with a highlighter...

it's out in the garage, on the shelf by my treadmill (with my scented candles)

Shop around online, like dick's sporting goods (note, their page is NOT dicks.com) and compare models to get a general idea of the modes, size of actual "walking" area, etc.

I spend around $400. My mother got a very basic one for less than half that at walmart. No program modes at all, just control speed & incline with up and down arrows.

Are you going to walk or run? JV made a remark to me that I can't recall about buying a better one so that he can run on it

I'm not 100% thrilled with the program modes that came on mine because they start out with the speed set at kind of a high MPH for someone unfit like me. So I feel like I have to do "manual" for a while before I'll be ready to tackle some of the other modes. But after playing with it a while, I believe I can lower the speed and the programs adjust accordingly

Also, depending on what you spend, you can be limited to picking 15, 30, 45, 55 minutes (mine) or you can enter any desired number of minutes yourself. Things like that. Do you want a control panel where you can type 2.5 miles in, or are you fine with using up and down buttons? Naturally this affects cost. (Do you want a cupholder?? Hell yeah! But the "magazine rack"... don't get me started... if you can READ, you're not moving enough. )

I paid $100 more for delivery and install and it was worth it!!

ROFL.. I love that you have scented candles out by your treadmill. I have a calendar that hangs on the wall next to my desk with important things on it, and I just jot down how many miles each time I walk. Some days I log 2.25 miles.. woot!

check out vision fitness, smooth (if you need a folder), & precor. I have the Vision 9600HT. I love it.

Be prepared to spend some money if you want near-gym quality that's going to last you 10-15 years. Look at the motor ratings. You don't want peak, you want sustained HP ratings. Also, look for Baldor motors.

Closet Treadmill Experts.. nice.

An alternative would be an Elliptical.

Pros:
* More versatile in terms of work out.
* Generally smaller compared to open treadmills
* Lower impact on the joints (safer)
* Adjustable resistance

Cons:
* More Expensive
* Most do not fold up like treadmills when not in use.
* Most do not have adjustable inclines for that calf burning run.

I have the Precor EFX5.19 and love it.

Just my $0.02

Things will get better... right?

I distinctly remember a day in... maybe February?  I remember the moment, but not what day it was. I was sitting at work thinking about plan...
